2009 AGL Sustainability Report Released
Hi blogging world. It has been a while since Andrew and I have been blogging. But we are back and its with great pleasure that the first blog I’m doing relates to the release of AGL’s new 2009 Sustainability Report. Its available at www.aglsustainability.com.au. I hope you all find it very interesting. It is the culmination of many months hard work by people across the AGL business. Special mentions though need to go to: Cathlin Thurbon, AGL’s Sustainability Manager, who has led the process from start to finish; Andrew Dudgeon, AGL’s Manager Carbon Project Analysis, one of Australia’s leading greenhouse accountants; and Fiona Orton, who has recently started full-time at AGL after working for GHD.
AGL recognised by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index
In September 2009, AGL was recognised as one of the world’s leading electric utilities in sustainability performance by being named on the global Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World).
AGL was the only Australian company to be named among the 13 companies worldwide which make up the electric utilities section of the DJSI World.
AGL was also named on the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index (DJSI Asia Pacific).
What is the DJSI?
Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes are the first global indexes tracking the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide.
The DJSI is based on sustainability investment specialist SAM’s corporate sustainability assessment, which identifies global sustainability leaders on the basis of economic, environmental and social criteria.
The DJSI follows a best-in-class approach and includes sustainability leaders from each industry on a global and regional level. The annual DJSI review analyses corporate economic, environmental and social performance.
How did we compare against other energy companies?
AGL’s score on the DJSI World was nearly 50% higher than the average score across all 110 electric utilities under consideration. Of the final 13 selected, AGL’s final score was more than 10% higher than the threshold score.
AGL was one of just 20 Australian firms named among the 317 global companies which make up the DJSI World.

Garnaut Review Announces Targets
The Garnaut Review has released a supplementary draft report recommending targets for the proposed Australian Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme. I have attached a link to a summary here. From here, the Government will consider this report and then a final report before releasing draft legislation for the scheme at the end of the year.
AGL Announces Full Year Results
Blogging world – if you are like me, full year results can often appear a bit hard to understand – acronyms such as EBIT, NPAT – it sounds a bit like an accountant’s rap. However, underlying our results this year is a strong message that AGL is continuing to deliver value for our shareholders while continuing to consolidate our position as the largest privately owned renewable energy company in Australia. Carbon Management Services
Hi Blogging World. Apologies for the delay in posting – its a pretty hectic time at the moment with Green Paper’s to examine, projects to look at and a whole bunch of economic modelling to do!! Over the last month, AGL has launched Carbon Management Services (CMS) - a new business aimed at helping our customers lower their carbon footprint through the deployment of energy efficiency, cogeneration and renewable energy. More on the CMS business can be found at this link on the AGL website.
